Avoca is a beautiful guest farm owned by Geoff Orpen. It is situated in the mountainous area of Barkly East in the Eastern Cape. We provide farm style accommodation and activities on a 150 year old 5000 Ha property with a variety of activities including hiking, fishing (access to your own 12km stretch of pristine private water), mountain biking, swimming and most importantly of all…relaxing!
All the accommodation is situated in and idyllic setting and is situated approximately 60km from the Tiffindell ski resort, 60km from the village of Rhodes and 36km from the town of Barkly East. We offer accommodation to large groups of friends and/or families and/or couples that want to “get away” from the mad rush of city life.
The Avoca valley is one of the most picturesque valleys in the district. Nestled below the majestic Avoca Peak lie the tranquil Millerd Mountain Lodges which are situated next to a fresh water stream flowing in from the Avoca valley. You alone, have access to this pristine valley where you are able to walk, cycle, fish, relax, swim and generally lose yourself in the beauty of the oldest farm in the district. For those interested in fishing, you have sole right to 12 km of private fishing, and can add to your day by swimming in the numerous river pools that form part of the river. With guided hikes up to different waterfalls and stunning views, you’ll be guaranteed an unforgettable stay!
