Guests stay in the “Old House” which was built circa 1867 and upgraded numerous times. It now hosts 4 large bedrooms that can sleep a maximum of 10 people (3 couples) with 3 bedrooms sharing a huge bathroom containing a bath and shower. The last bedroom has its own dedicated shower and toilet facility. The 2 “units” are separated by a huge lounge dining room combination which has hosted many medial theme parties, ballroom dances and extravagant birthday parties in the past on its huge stinkwood table. A large well apportioned kitchen completes the Old House sporting an AGA stove for the chilly winter nights and all fixtures and fittings one would expect including a washing machine and tumble drier. Wifi is also fast (ok kinda) and free and includes access to Netflix and enables payment with a card machine.

You are encouraged to cater for your own meals as Barkly East does not cater for all the diverse tastes and cuisine choices of our dear group of millennials, especially those from Cape Town sadly. However, if you are tempted by our simple hearty country fair, then we can rustle-up a homemade pizza, scrumptious leg of Wartrail Lamb and mint or soup and home-made bread…. the choice is entirely yours.

The houses most stunning feature is however its formal garden and setting against Glengyle Mountain which towers 1km high over the property. It also has a large east facing stoep which overlooks Balloch Mountain in the distance and incredible vistas dotted with grazing cattle, horses, trees and rolling grasslands often covered in snow.
